Sr. Manager of Warehouse and Transportation

About the Role

Effectively and profitably manage the Clover Sonoma Cader Warehouse and Transportation Operations in support of established policies, goals, and objectives; the Sr.Manager provides overall leadership, strategic direction and vision for Warehouse and Transportation functions in the areas of safety, administration, quality, warehouse operations, route efficiencies, and asset management and continuous operation improvement.

This hands-on position is responsible for driving improved performance, customer service, company asset utilization and positive employee relations. This is a senior role will directly manage up to 100 employees and mid-level supervisors. The Sr. Manager of Warehouse and Transportation will report to the Vice President of Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assume total ownership and ensure the successful operation of the Cader Warehouse and all Transportation functions.
  • Manage all company resources at the location to optimize profitability and improve the efficiency of manpower, materials and equipment.
  • Ensures supervisors and their staff have the required safety training and are consistently working in a safe manner; develops and implements safety programs to reduce accidents and injuries.
  • Provides leadership, communication, and coaching to supervisors and staff; cultivates a motivated employee environment of trust, teamwork to achieve company goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that all associates in his departments follow company standards, policies, procedures and applicable laws.
  • Formulate or approve short and long-term operating objectives in areas such as cost reduction, quality improvement, and new product integration as undertaken at the facility level; look for and drive continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Work with warehouse and transportation teams in maximizing output, improving equipment availability and reducing waste.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors department budget; manages expenses within approved budget constraints
  • Coordinate operational activities through planning with departmental supervisors to insure the areas objectives are accomplished in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain proper staffing levels, employee performance evaluations, and employee coaching and development.
  • Maintain existing warehouse facilities and transportation equipment; implements capital and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure that product quality is handled so it meets established standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Work with the Sales Team to ensure that our customer’s logistic requirements are met.
  • Responsible for driver’s compliance of all DOT/DMV regulations.
  • Adheres to the parameters of the (CBA) Collective Bargaining Agreement.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Proven track record of improved results in the areas of quality, safety, service and cost.
  • Proficient understanding of budgeting, expense planning and cost control.
  • Proficient with general business, ERP and warehouse management software.
  • Experience in a SQF as it pertains to warehouse facility.
  • Experience with government regulatory requirements pertaining to DOT, DMV and OSHA.
  • Excellent Communication Skills – efficient and effective oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate at all levels of the organization; builds and maintains strong relationships with peers.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem Solving Skills – quantitative and qualitative analysis; ability to identify the significant factors of an issue; employ creativity in identifying causes, implications and remedies; demonstrate a balance between theoretical and practical solutions.
  • Initiative – ability to work independently; ensure responsive timely follow-up; meeting of deadlines; demonstrated sense of urgency; ability to prioritize; effective organizational skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to foster a positive and productive environment.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule in response to customer demand in a 7×24 operation.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of experience in fresh food manufacturing operations.
  • Union experience a plus.
  • Minimum 7 years’ of experience in dairy production or fresh food plant operations.
  • Preferred experience with Carton and Plastic filling and packaging in a high volume processing environment.
