The “D” in Double D stands for “Danny’s Dream.” Dominic’s uncle, Danny had always wanted to start a dairy but was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1987. His parents Harold and Marlene lived out his dream, starting Double D Dairy in his honor in 2005. Their grandson Dominic Assali joined the family operation upon graduating from Cal Poly SLO in 2014. In the fall of 2014, they started a second dairy, Double D #2.
Double D Dairies
The Assali family dairies joined Clover Sonoma in 2016. Dominic and his wife Nicole now operate the dairy and enjoy raising a family on the farm. The Double D Dairies utilize manure management technologies like methane digesters and manure separators to decrease their carbon footprint.

Sustainability
The manure management on Double D-1 is done through an anaerobic digester, creating energy as well as natural gas; at the same time, this process results in a reduction of greenhouse gases. At Double D-2, the manure is managed in a separator; this pulls the solids from the liquids that can then be dried and used for bedding while reducing methane emissions. Their innovative electric feed mixing station was installed in 2022 and has provided them with a consistent feed blend, reduction of diesel emissions, and improved air quality.
