Sour Cream

Perhaps it’s always been there for you or it’s a new discovery. Always in, never trendy, different people respond to sour cream differently. Some say it’s sweet. Others describe it as tart. But everyone agrees that sour cream is creamy and rich and improves the flavor of anything you put it on, cook it into, or mix it with.

Sour cream has long been a traditional topping on soups and stews in Central and Eastern Europe. Immigrants brought it to the U.S. where it’s now also enjoyed in dips and on baked potatoes.

Sour cream has a very high content of saturated fat and is a good source of vitamin A, calcium, riboflavin and phosphorus.

Depsite “sour” being in its name, which is a reference to the traditional process of souring, sour cream is not very sour.
