It’s dessert decorating season and while I love sprinkles (A LOT), I’m even more in love with these natural cake decorations (for any dessert you’re having this season).

Whether you buy your desserts or you make them yourself (or a combo like me – cake mix and homemade whipped cream!), these dessert toppings can be done by you and look so stylish!

While I tried to show as many option as I could here, in reality, I would probably only pick 1-3 toppings for a cake or cupcakes and then repeat them. Right now my favorite are the dried orange slices, star anise, and the fresh rosemary.

The easiest decoration idea is the one you have at home. We always have bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise in my spice drawer – year round. The fresh herbs – lemon balm, mint, and rosemary – are easily attainable year round, which is easy enough.

Prep time: 10 minutes

Servings: 8

Dietary Restrictions: Gluten Free, Vegetarian

1 cup Clover Sonoma Organic Heavy Whipping Cream

1 Tablespoon sugar, plus more to taste

optional additions: 1 teaspoon vanilla, almond extract, citrus zest

1 dried orange slice

2 small sprigs eucalyptus

1 bay leaf

1 small sprig rosemary

1 small sprig lemon balm

1 small sprig mint leaves

3-5 fresh cranberries

1 star anise

1 cinnamon stick

1 kiwi finely chopped

3-5 pomegranate arils

1 teaspoon chopped, raw pistachios

1 teaspoon pumpkin seeds

In a stand mixer, or with a hand blender and a deep bowl, whip cream.

Add in sugar and optional flavoring when ripples begin to form in the cream.

Add more sugar to taste. Whip until it maintains desired consistency.

Top dessert with a layer of whipped cream.

Top each cupcake, mini pie, or tart with one of the above toppings with corresponding amount.

If decorating a larger cake, feel free to add larger amounts of décor ideas or a combination of toppings.
