Recology & Clover Sonoma
Last year, we were the first brand in the U.S. to convert our Organic Milk half gallons to a Fully Renewable Carton. We plan to convert all of our milk cartons to the renewable carton by the year 2023. As part of this effort, we want to inspire sustainability and recycling within our community.
We partnered with our local waste hauler, Recology, to help educate around the importance of recycling by answering questions like “what happens to my garbage?”, while also teaching how to best dispose of and recycle the new carton.
Recology Sonoma-Marin Waste Zero Specialist, Lisa Moore, describes the recycling process for a milk carton and why it’s important for cartons to be clean and dry before being discarded. And our own Director of Marketing, Adrienne Spohr, explains why we invested in our new fully renewable milk cartons. Eight-five to ninety percent of any carton is made of paperboard, and we use Forest Stewardship Council Certified paperboard to make sure it’s sourced from responsibly managed forests. In addition to the FSC paperboard, the sugar cane-based bio-plastic liner inside the carton acts as a moisture barrier. Unlike a fossil fuel-based liner, our sugar cane liner helps absorb carbon from the atmosphere through the plant-growing process and is renewable as it can easily be re-grown.
We look forward to continuing to innovate packaging to improve waste management issues that contribute to climate change. Help us be the change you want to see!
