It’s Always Punny in Petaluma: 2019 Butter & Egg Day Parade
Every April people flock from near and far to Petaluma, California, for a weekend of fun and frolic at the annual Butter & Egg Day Parade. This hometown celebration of our local heritage in the dairying and poultry industries is a long time favorite that never fails to bring the community together.
This year was eggstra-special for us at Clover because the 2019 parade theme was “It’s Always Punny in Petaluma.” This payed homage to our punny bovine, Clo the Cow, who has famously delivered her clever one-line puns on billboards scattered around Northern California for the last 50 years.
Yes, you herd right! Clo is fifty this year, and she’s udderly embracing mid-life in cowlossal fashion. She was the belle of the pre-parade festivities, greeting her many enthusiastic fans with her signature toothy grin before kicking off the Clover kid’s parade in her birthday ballgown.
From there, she climbed atop Clover’s pun-tastic float (which took home 1st place in the Commercial Float category) and lead the main parade procession through historic downtown Petaluma. As this year’s Grand Marsal, she followed in the esteemed hoof prints of our founding father, Gene Benedetti, who marshaled the parade on behalf of Clover in 1983.
The party will continue throughout this year as Clo celebrates a half-century of dairying greatly! Wondering how you can join in on the fun? You can start by stopping by the 50 Years of Clo exhibit at the Petaluma Historical Museum now through June 9th, 2019. Then, be sure to keep a Clo-se eye on our website and social media channels for more some exciting moo’s coming in June!
